The New Jersey Senate has passed bipartisan legislation sponsored by Senator Christopher “Kip” Bateman (R-16) and Senator Nicholas Scutari (D-22) that names pet trafficking a third-degree crime.

Sens. Sweeney and Scutari Call for Construction of Key Access Road

Focusing on the need to remove heavy truck traffic from a roadway that goes through residential communities, Senate President Steve Sweeney and Senator Nick Scutari today called for funding for the project that is “ready to go” with all the advance planning and permitting already in place. The access road, known as the “Tremley Point Connector,” would provide a direct connection to the Tremley Point section of Linden, an industrialized area that relies on commercial traffic and offers the potential for economic expansion.

Scutari pushes for Turnpike access road in Linden

For nearly two decades, officials representing the city have been fighting for an access road off the New Jersey Turnpike here.

The need for the road was renewed last month as drivers were stuck on the highway for hours after a dump truck overturned and became engulfed in flames under the South Wood Avenue bridge, killing one person in the truck.

State Sen. Nicholas Scutari, D-22nd District, does want to see any more time go by before plans for the access road get back on track.
